H&M Move began selling its new autumn layering collection online and in selected stores on 8 October. According to the brand’s 7 October release, close-fitting foundations are combined with relaxed outer volumes, padded accessories and weather-protective layers. The palette moves through purple haze, salt white, cold clay, grey mélange, dark heather and black.

This is a product announcement, but its proportions point to a broader autumn direction. A larger outer layer over a fitted base changes silhouette as well as temperature. Longer pieces, funnel necks and adjustable hems allow the wearer to alter volume while moving.

Three fabric names, three brand promises

The release uses the names Fleece SoftMove, ThermoMove and StormMove. These are brand terms, not universal performance standards. H&M describes Fleece SoftMove as soft breathable warmth, ThermoMove as heat support and StormMove as protection from the elements.

For shoppers, the specific label matters more than the name. What is the fibre composition? Does the product provide a measurable water or wind resistance claim? How should the surface be washed? The product page and sewn-in care label should answer questions that campaign copy can only summarise.

Good layering depends less on the number of garments than on how their functions are divided.

Translating the idea to a Budapest autumn

Budapest mornings and evenings can be cold while afternoons remain mild. A practical system starts with a light base, adds a relaxed fleece and uses a wind or rain layer only when needed. A thick mid-layer looks more controlled when the garment underneath stays close to the body and the lower silhouette does not repeat the same bulk.

Retail Gazette also highlighted the contrast between fitted bases and cocooning volumes. Knitted and padded accessories add texture, keeping the restrained palette from becoming flat. Purple haze or cold clay can provide enough contrast against black and grey even in a small area.

Hungarian shoppers should confirm local availability because the brand refers to selected stores and online sales, not every item in every market. It is also worth asking whether a technical layer works with the existing wardrobe. The strongest purchase is not simply dramatic in a campaign image; it works with at least three pieces already owned.

The collection is not a radical change but a precise study in proportion. The exchange between fitted and enveloping shapes, soft fleece and protective outer layers shows how function can build a recognisable autumn silhouette.
